Use Write Now as a supplement when pupils are working on letters, words or short sentences. You choose the focus and decide how to follow up.
The pupil listens, looks at the image and selects letters. The keyboard offers fewer choices after an off-target attempt.
Start together, then follow up
Choose an exercise area
Match it to your current teaching. For example, choose Simple words to work with words such as hat, cat and sun. Introduce the sounds and spellings you want the pupil to notice.
Try the first exercise together
Listen to the word. Let the pupil try a letter and notice how the keyboard responds. Give time for another attempt.
Talk about the words afterwards
Which sounds did the pupil notice? Ask them to read or write one of the words without the keyboard support, where appropriate.
Choose the focus, not a fixed route
The available areas cover letter names, letter sounds, words, phrases, sentences and a story. Some groups focus on spelling patterns; others group words by meaning.
Write Now does not set a complete teaching sequence. You select exercises within your own planned teaching and adapt them to the pupil.

A completed exercise is not an assessment of independent reading or spelling. On a shared device, the overview may include work from more than one pupil.
